Oftentimes in EU/EW I have the feeling I don't have the tools to avoid death reliably, XCOM 2 fixes this. Your soldiers grow way more resistant later on but can still die to the stronger enemies, you have less margin for error but the tools to avoid death. Every new enemy you encounter will force you to adapt and change your playstyle. It has such a huge variety of enemies who all feel different and provide something new. Every engagement is a puzzle rather than a struggle for survival. It's smoother, less clunky and fast-paced. Soldiers are way more vulnerable and even your colonels can die in one stray shot. When you hear the sound of a Sectopod in the distance you know ♥♥♥♥ is ♥♥♥♥♥♥. You want to be careful, not run into them all at once. The music, the faint sounds of enemies moving, sound queues telling you what enemies are on the map all help to get you tensed up. XCOM EU/EW really gives you the feeling of fighting of an unknown invader, it's way closer to the original 90's X-Com. !!!īoth are great games but in my opinion XCOM 2 has the better gameplay, while XCOM Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within has way better atmosphere.
